SPRINGING FORTH!
category: Faith

The grass is sprouting... and so is my hair.  I love spring.  Even though the weather is still a bit of a roller coaster, you know spring is beating out the frosty mornings.  The brown grass and bare trees, are bursting with buds.  There is hope life is returning. It seems almost  impossible for life to spring from something that looks dead.

It also seems impossible for a bald woman to regain a full head of hair.  But thank the good Lord... my head is budding too!  Soon, after spring break, you will see a new hair do.  During my test runs without the wig, I've seen the look of shock on some people's faces.  Some even ask why I cut off all my hair.  Not everyone knows about my recent second bout with cancer.  But even though the hair seems short to some, it's very long to me right now... considering I had nothing but skin up top for awhile.  No pun intended, bare with me while this hair grows back to the old style.  I'm taking polls right now some people like my hair short... others want it to return to the normal long length.

I'd love to hear your input on the subject.  Just as many people voted on my wig style, I'd love to get some opinions.  But we all know the important thing isn't hair, nails, eyelashes or any other material thing on this earth.  I'm blessed with hair or wit h out hair.  God has been good through this battle.. I have a loving family, friends and my ABC 33/40 family.  God has revealed more blessings than hair during this time.   And recently my doctor used the words you are cured!  Yes, life can spring forth even when things seem bleak.  And you too can get through anything just keep the faith. Praise God!

I love your hair short! Not the 1st few dew's with the white tip's and all the gel, that was a little shocking! But now it is very becoming to you! Keep it all one color, and looking natural, I think it look's awesome short!!! My Dad is a 2 time colon cancer survivor, and he has been cancer free for over 10 years, so it can be done! Hang in there, some day's blind faith is all you will have, and you don't have to be strong all the time! That's why God has placed certain people in your life, to help lift you up, when you don't feel like it! Good luck and God bless!!!

Amy
I think your hair's looking great! I have cancer & my hair is slowly growing back. Every time I fly, they inspect my Driver's License when I looked tan and healthy with long blond hair, and then give me a doubting look...as if I could still be the same person. Then usually comment that I whacked my hair off. It seems just as it begins to grow back, its time for another round of chemo. You are an inspiration. Thank you for keeping such a positive attitude and a smile on your face, even when I know (from experience) that sometimes you probably didn't feel well.

Nadine
Brenda your hair looks great. I love short hair. I whacked mine off some years ago. When I saw your short cut I said oh no her cancer has returned. Hang in there! My mother lost her battle with lung cancer September 26. But she hung in there.

I'm glad your doing better Mrs. Ladunn. I did'nt know about the second bout you had. I've watched you for a long time. We hope the best for you.

Brenda,

You are a beautiful woman inside and out regardless of the styles. No matter what style you choose you can't go wrong you just have a natural beauty about you. I love the short hair style you have now. In my oppinion that look suits you.

debbie.davis@compbenefits.com
Brenda, I have always wanted to tell you how much I admire you. You are such a special person and inspiration to all. God has blessed you but also everyone else for knowing a special person like you. I have always kept up with you from the very first time you were on the news. When you were out on vacation or something I would panic.

I like your hair short but it doesn't matter to anyone but you. You do your hair the way that makes you happy. Have a blessed day and keep up the great attitude. P.S. I am SO GLAD you heard the words CURED. That is wonderful. God is GOOD!!

Ann
I did not know you have been wearing a wig up until lately. I like the long length on you, but you happen to have one of those pretty faces & fabulous eyes that can wear short hair too! You better face it, girl! You don't know how to be ugly!

Joy L
Keep your hair short, a little darker though to accent the blue eyes. Ok?

Chris M
I really like you with SHORT hair much better. It brings out your features and makes you looked so refreshed after all you have been through. Besides short hair is "hot". (I think it might look better if not quite such a light blonde though)

DD
Brenda I have moved from Alabama and did not know that you had a recent second bout with cancer. My mother-in-law is cancer free now(breast) and my sister (colon/rectal) has been cancer free 2 years. I praise God for these good reports and for yours! I read your book and I have admired you and your faith in this battle. Thank you for sharing your story, see my battle is not the same as yours But still a battle, Thank you for reminding me that I can with Christ get through anything! May God continue to bless you as you walk in HIS WORD and in HIS PERFECT HEALING!!

Brenda Ladun
Thank you all for all your comments, prayers and well wishes. I am truly blessed. From the many nurses and staff at the hospital that have become dear friends to my other sisters and brothers in the fight. You know what it's like to walk through cancer and out of a hospital in tears... perhaps even turning your head so that people around you won't see you are scared and crying.... yes cancer can get the best of us. But your kind words about the hair goes beyond hair. Thank you for letting me know it doesn't matter. I know it's a little bright these days... but the day I asked for highlights... my little boy was waiting for me to come to lunch with him. I couldn't stay at the salon for another process... so I left bright. I will try to get it toned down soon! Shockakhan and Korient please e-mail me brendal@abc3340.com Denise Garrison... consider us friends... you are so sweet and have a very sweet mother-in-law. I pray your hair will come back. Take a good multi-vitamin and eat plenty of protein. My dear husband rubbed my bald head each night and prayed the hair would return.... I believe in the power of prayer:) Joyce, thanks you made me smile. Sue, What a great mother-n-law you are! Kam, You're right it's a little too light in my opinion too. Nicole, I can't wait until it covers my ears too! Mary Jane, As for color go to someone who has had experience with new hair growth. I just decided to take the plunge and go for it. I trusted my salon... my boys are used to me with light hair so at the first sign of fuzz when I could pinch it between my fingers I headed for the salon. Loraine, You've been like an angel. Thank you! I have to do the news now but want to respond personally to each and every one who has enriched my life with your faith and your stories of survival. We really are all in this life together... and should encourage one another and that's what you've done with your stories love and support. Thank you and God bless!

Kathy
Brenda, I love the short hair on you. It is very becoming and you are lucky to be so tiny and be able to wear it like that. I vote to keep it short!! May God continue to bless you and use you in a mighty way.

Errica
Brenda - I've always admired you. I remember when you went through your first bout with cancer, you were a trooper then. I was shocked when I saw you on TV a couple of weeks ago and the hair was short and the first thing I thought was that she must have the cancer again. We wouldn't have never known until you revealed your hair. Your always such an upbeat person with so much positive energy, you inspire us all. May God continue to bless and keep and make His face to shine upon you. You are truly an amazing and uplifting soul.

BRENDA, I LOVE THE HAIT IT BROUGHT BACK LOVING MEMORIES OF MY MOTHER WHO I LOVED DEEPLY..SHE LOST THE BATTLE 6 YEARS AGO TO CANCER...BUT, I KNOW SHE IS ALL CURED NOW AND WALKING WITH THE LORD DAILY....KEEP UP THE FAITH AND I KNOW YOU TOO WILL BE OK....HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY....

I think your hair is looking great! You are such a strong woman.. our God is amazing and helps us through everything life throws at us. You are a beautiful lady, and like you said, the material stuff doesn't matter. I will continue praying for you :)

Nicole
You are such an inspiration! When I first saw the short hair do a few days ago, I thought, "You go girl!" You are so brave, and yet so humble. May God continue to bless you and your family. You have been in my prayers, and I am just so very thankful that prayer works. Never waiver because you are a phenominal woman.

Denise Garrison
Dear Brenda- Nine weeks ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am a Birmingham native living in Wisconsin. Due to my husbands job, we travel a great deal. When my mother-in-law told me of your battle with cancer, I felt this was something happening to someone who was a friend. (Funny how TV makes people family, I guess it's because you do invite them into your home.) I am so happy that you have done well and I have always thought you were very attractive - I don't think hair style can change that! I now have to wear an itchy wig because of chemo. Most of the time when I get in my car to come home the wig rides in the passenger seat! Jamie Lee Curtis has a great short style, I long for the day my hair is sprouting - I am certain you look great. Having cancer makes you realize that God, family, friends, and the ability to enjoy life are what count! You are an encouragement to many people. I love your hair!! Get out there and dance! Sincerely, Denise DeniseGarrison@NEW.rr.com

Brenda I love your short hair infact I am thinking about cutting mine that style. You are pretty with or without your wig. Keep up the faith. You are such a blessing and you can see the Lord through your beautiful smile. Keep up the good work and I look forward for the news everyday to see your smileing face.

Brenda, I think you are a beautiful person with short or long hair either one. I am so happy to hear that you are CURED..Thank You Lord!

Brenda, So happy for you. My daughter-in-law who lives in Wisconsin is going thru her chemo now. I have forwarded your blog to her for inspiration.

I do like your hair short, but the wig was very attractive. It is your option not ours.

May God bless you!

Sue

I think you look beautiful just the way you are...you are an inspiration to so many. How you continued to work, smile, and keep going had to be hard. I know it's through your walk with God it all became possible. I was amazed that you had a reoccurence due to the radical surgery you had. Is that common? Be proud of all you represent for us all. Be yourself and do what you want to do with your hair. Who cares?

NancyB
Hair, what about your hair? As far as I am concerned you make the hair, the hair does not make you. That being said, it really doesn't matter whether it's in or out, I see the glory of God on your face. After all, thats all thats important in this life. I pray the blood of Jesus on you to keep you safe and completely healthy. Thanks for being the person you are.

megan
wow you truelly are an amazing lady.god bless your spirit and courage love from overshons 6th grade class

tim
its not the outside that should matter anyway god loves us because of the inside keep your faith stay strong !!!! i like long hair but whatever you feel in your heart should be your decision....

Billie
I love your hair short!!! Don't let it get long again

Jackie Sullivan
Brenda you are a beautiful person with or without hair. Do what pleases yourself, you deserve that right! You are truly to be admired through your struggle, but as you said God brings you through if you only ask. Take care, may God continue to bless.

Kam
Brenda, I am thankful that you overcame your second bout with cancer. You are an inspiration! The short hairdo is fine but the color is toooooo light for you. It almost has an ashy look to it on TV and it washes you out. I think going a darker honey blond would be more flattering a color. Whether platinum blond, ash blond, or bald, you are beautiful both inside and out! You are in my prayers... God Bless! Kam

PHYLLIS SCHRADER
Brenda, I am with you on the just having hair. My bout with radiation after breast cancer is almost done and my hair also is coming back. We do take the little things for granted. My hair looks like baby chick fuzz! I like the new look, the blond side. I like it better than with the dark mixed in. You could come out with no hair and I would side with you and think you look just fine. May God continue to bless you as you have blessed many others.

Patti Thorpe
God bless on your good news,NO CANCER! I had no idea that you had had a second bout with cancer, until I saw you on the news with your new do! I had no idea that you were wearing wigs!,I remember when you had your first bout you did not wear wigs, you were "all natureal" so you can imange my surprise when I saw your short hair. I like your long blond locks but it is what I have been use to seeing. But whatever you WANT and LIKE is all that matthers. Will see what the opinion will be of others, either way you look GREAT and yes with your faith and GOD,ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!!

Nicole Brewer
Watching your hair grow and your different styles reminds me of the roller coaster I've been through with my mom! Her hair is covering the top of her ears now! and as you said a little seems like alot when you've had none! We have been Praying for you and we are so happy to hear you are doing well! I am in aww over God's blessings each and every day!

Our PRAYERS are with you! Nicole (Walnut Grove)

Brenda You have been an inspiration to me for years.I lost my mom to cancer last July. She never had a chance to lose her hair. After we were told she had cancer she only lived a couple of months. I look to God for my faith but he sends people like you to lift our faith. Thank you Brenda for keeping the faith because you are such a wittness for God. Kathy

"YOU ARE CURED" trumps hair or hair style anyday. You are a beautiful woman whether hair is long or short, natural or a wig. I, personally, think short hair is cute on you! You , indeed are blessed. So many friends, a wonderful supportave family .... at work and in your personal life. .. and now this most wonderful of news. I will be watching to see just what hair style you do choose. My God continue to bless you as your life blesses so many others.

Dear Brenda, I just wanted you to know that you have been in my prayers. I had brain surgery on 9-11-07. I work at Hoover High School. i have not been back to work since August 27-07. My tumor was not cancer, but it takes a year to recover from such a surgery. The tumor was very large. My hair is growing back pretty well, it needs to be colored, but I was hesitant because it is so new. I noticed your new do looks to have been colored. What do you reccommend?

Thank you and have a blessed day:) Mary Jane Serio

Brenda, When I look at you all I can see is the beautiful inside of you and the huge blessing you are to so many. You will never know how many people have been touched and changed by you. Our God has indeed taken something the devil meant for bad and turned it to good. Having said that, I know in our humanness?, we all want to look our best and that includes hair, especially for women.

I remember the time during your first round of growing back the hair how unbelievably smashing you looked when your hair was about shoulder-length, just beginning to touch. It was my favorite and yet every time you changed styles and length, that became my fav, so bottom line, you have never worn a style that was unbecoming!! I vote for shoulder length though with those drop-dead beautiful eyes of yours.

I'm so-o happy to add "CURED" to my list of adjectives describing you!!!!

TONYA
I was watching you the other day and thought how wonderful it is that your hair is coming back and am so glad to hear your news that you are cured!! God is so good to all of us. You are such a beautiful lady - with long or short hair...really doesn't matter. Your inner beauty is what counts most anyway. You are a blessing and inspiration to all who are struggling.

Michelle
Hi Brenda,

I love the short hair! I did not realize you had been battling cancer, but think the short look is fabulous! It is very young and modern looking... I think you should keep it short!

-Michelle

Brenda, I've always loved watching you. I knew you were a Christian before I ever heard it from your mouth. I have always thought that your hair would look beautiful with a warmer honey blonde toner put on it. That is really important. Also, use a curling iron more when it gets a little longer. Then grow it long. I am glad you are cured.

Melba Cavender
