I smiled and said, "Yes, I'm cooking!"
In most households that exchange might not have much significance. But in my household the fact that I was cooking again meant a lot more than those few words indicated. The fact that my husband saw me cooking meant the effects of the chemo had faded. The days were behind us where I had to ask him to help me with zippers and buttons because my fingers were burning from the chemo. The days I'd walk in and head for the chair or the bed were starting to just be a memory.
I'm still just half way through the radiation treatments. It's really not bad, and as the doctor promised it's like a bad sunburn. It's really not bad at all. I'm battling the burning with a lot of aloe and some special gel. In fact I'm starting to research the fact that aloe juice can also help with the internal effects. After radiation, I'm facing one more surgery. I'm not excited about the fact that I'll be thrown back into the state where I'll have to rely on everyone else to help me with the most menial tasks. But I know that the good Lord has walked me through some pretty tough times in the last four months. I know He'll see me through the next phase. Your prayers have lifted me up and helped me more than you know. The meals so many wonderful friends have provided were such a relief when I was so tired and hurting. Thank you for helping me through a tough time.
Later the same day, my children walked in the kitchen and exclaimed, "Mom, you're cooking!" One son turned to the other and said, "Mom's cooking!" We all smiled and laughed. Yes mom's cooking!
Thank you for being so open about your experiences. If I've learned anything about this process it is that how I handle things impacts others, and so, I try to be positive in my outlook. I'm sure that you've helped so many people in so many ways. Thank you and may God bless you and everyone who loves you.
Just a note to let you know that another big fan of yours (that's me) is praying for you. I always think of the verse about He will never leave us or forsake us. He is with you and all your Christian listeners and watchers are praying for God to completely heal you. God bless you and your family.
Your friend in Christ, Judy Langford
What an inspiration you have been to me...and my parents. They have been to see you when you've given your testimony.
In the early 90's, I worked with you on a show or two at the Birmingham Civic Center. I used to help with the Bridal shows and other fashion shows. You were so kind to everyone around. I believe that you and I share a birthday, or close to it. (My birthdate is 1/01/57).
Continue to stay positive.
