SIGNS OF LIFE!

There I was standing in the kitchen.  I scraped the roast and put it in the crock pot.  My husband Doug and I were casually chatting.  Then after a few minutes his train of thought was interrupted by a revelation.  "You're cooking!" He said.

I smiled and said, "Yes, I'm cooking!"

In most households that exchange might not have much significance.  But in my household the fact that I was cooking again meant a lot more than those few words indicated.  The fact that my husband saw me cooking meant the effects of the chemo had faded.  The days were behind us where I had to ask him to help me with zippers and buttons because my fingers were burning from the chemo.  The days I'd walk in and head for the chair or the bed were starting to just be a memory.

I'm still just half way through the radiation treatments.  It's really not bad, and as the doctor promised it's like a bad sunburn.  It's really not bad at all. I'm battling the burning with a lot of aloe and some special gel.  In fact I'm starting to research the fact that aloe juice can also help with the internal effects. After radiation, I'm facing one more surgery.  I'm not excited about the fact that I'll be thrown back into the state where I'll have to rely on everyone else to help me with the most menial tasks.  But I know that the good Lord has walked me through some pretty tough times in the last four months.  I know He'll see me through the next phase.  Your prayers have lifted me up and helped me more than you know.  The meals so many wonderful friends have provided were such a relief when I was so tired and hurting.  Thank you for helping me through a tough time.

Later the same day,  my children walked in the kitchen and exclaimed, "Mom, you're cooking!"  One son turned to the other and said, "Mom's cooking!"  We all smiled and laughed.  Yes mom's cooking!

Brenda, thank you for your blog. I am also undergoing chemotherapy with 8 of 12 treatments completed. I haven't lost my hair, but it is thinning and so are my eyebrows. An eyebrow pencil helps with that. I have mild neuropathy that is more intense while I'm taking my treatment. I've found that running warm water over my hands helps.

Thank you for being so open about your experiences. If I've learned anything about this process it is that how I handle things impacts others, and so, I try to be positive in my outlook. I'm sure that you've helped so many people in so many ways. Thank you and may God bless you and everyone who loves you.

Thanks so much for the prayers and the encouragement.... As for the question: Is it a wig? Yes it is. Thanks for even asking that! It makes me feel better. Also Dottie, I know you are a strong woman with all you have to do. Please get a mammogram. Contact the American Cancer Association. The Komen for a Cure Foundation provides fund to women in need for mammograms. Remember the sooner you catch cancer the better... your husband needs you! Chances are you won't have anything to worry about... but early detection is the key right now! God Bless, Brenda

Just wanted you to know that I am thinking and praying for you. God does have a plan, and I believe that He sometimes chooses the strongest people to carry them out. Like you, I have been through all of this before, but my cancer was lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease. I admire you for your ability to "keep going" because I am aware of how hard it is sometimes when you feel so bad. Keep fighting! You are wise to use as many "products" as you can to nullify some of the effects of the radiation, because those effects will increase as you get toward the end of the treatment schedule. Take care of yourself, and I will be praying for you.

Benda, You are such a wonderful woman. Just reading your blog made me realize that we should all appreciate the small things in life. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Brenda, you are looking great! You are such a inspiration to all of us. I had breast cancer about the same time you did before and I got really nervous when I heard your report. We watch your news report nightly and you never cease to amaze me. I, too, am a Christian and I know that God has a plan. I hope that I can be as faithful to Him as I believe you have been. I believe you are planting seeds every day for people to see.

Brenda:

Just a note to let you know that another big fan of yours (that's me) is praying for you. I always think of the verse about He will never leave us or forsake us. He is with you and all your Christian listeners and watchers are praying for God to completely heal you. God bless you and your family.

Your friend in Christ, Judy Langford

Brenda I was glad to hear from you and your always so refreshing, of course it should nol amaze us as Christians when we clearly can see that its all a God thing, I know I have always heard and i am sure you as well have heard the same thing that God will not put on us more than we can stand, My pastor said a few weeks ago that If God did not put more on us than we can stand we may never learn to depend upon Him I believe this to be true, but I also know he says ok whats happening is enough and He calms and stops the storms of life, We are believing and praying right along with you that is will all be behind you very soon God Bless you

Brenda's determination and attitude, the credit she gives to God and the FACT that this is uplifting instead of negative as so much that is seen, heard and read today has not only brightened my morning but renewed my faith. Not in the Lord but in good people and the courage they show just by "smiling through the pain"

Brenda, you are such an inspiration to many. You are right on it....GOD WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH THE FIRE AGAIN!!!!!! If you haven't heard that song by The Crabb Family, you really need to get that cd. Keep up the faith. Keep shining that light of hope, faith, and positive comments to all the people that are experiencing similar roller coaster rides as you are. Satan trembles when another Christian has enough faith to move mountains.......At our church in Gadsden, there is a woman that has the same attitude as you do. She lives and walks with the Holy Spirit by her side. She has fought 2 battles and going through her third. She has a very expensive and real-looking wig. She provides for her family and presses on towards the promises of God------unstoppable, unbreakable, and sure that will God will take her through!!!!!! I admire you!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Brenda, it is so good to hear from you, I will always say that it is amazing how you look at things, but it should not amaze us because I know that its the Lord that helps you to look at life the way you do, I have not been where you are, but I have had those times when times have not been so great and look back at how I made it through and I was the same God that you have right now as I had then, it is always humbleing to reflect on how He carries us through each trial of life. I know we have all heard that God will not put on us more than we can stand My pastor just said a few weeks ago He did not believe that because if he did not do that at times we would never learn to rely on Him, and I know that is very true for me it is the valley's that i have faced thats made me stronger and has made me look to him first instead of after I have worn myself out trying and worring on my on. I will continue to pray for you and your family as you go through another surgery and finish you radiation because we know the best is yet to come. love regina

Hi Brenda-

What an inspiration you have been to me...and my parents. They have been to see you when you've given your testimony.

In the early 90's, I worked with you on a show or two at the Birmingham Civic Center. I used to help with the Bridal shows and other fashion shows. You were so kind to everyone around. I believe that you and I share a birthday, or close to it. (My birthdate is 1/01/57).

Continue to stay positive.
