Don't Give Up!

Copper is a beagle.  He is slightly plump as far as beagles go.  But he is one animal with so much heart to hang in there to get what he wants out of life.  Sometimes it means stretching the limits to reach up into the trash can.  I see the evidence after he's pulled napkins with bbq remnants on them.   I think if he could he'd eat himself to death.

Recently he decided he was going to get up on his old perch at the foot of the bed.  Since he's 9 years old, he's not as agile as he once was.  So we moved an ottoman to the foot of the bed to help him make the jump.  However, now that the stiffness of advancing years is catching up with him, even the ottoman is a little steep.  He has his own puffy doggy bed.  But he wouldn't settle down until he reached his goal.

So even though I know I physically can't lift the 50 plus pound pup, I knew I had to try.  Together we did it!  He put his front paws on the ottoman,  then I hoisted the bottom part.   Then we repeated the step again to the top of the bed.

It reminded me of how God promises to give us a lift when we can't do it on our own.  Phil 4:13 " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

It's the kind of strength I saw in a 14 year old young lady's eyes.  It's the kind of strength that defies all logic.  She has a dream of becoming a singer and actress.  But one day her mother noticed something different in her energy level.  So she, took her to the docter.  After some tests the news was devastating.  Kaylee had cancer of the thyroid.  The surgery would mean a doctor would cut her throat and separate her vocal chords. Then remove the thyroid.

At about the time they were discovering and dealing with the cancer, Kaylee had been in the process of trying out for the high school play.   She got the lead role.   But the drama teacher had reservations about Kaylee.  She didn't want her to strain her vocal chords after the surgery and ruin her future dreams.

Kaylee had the surgery.  A few days afterward, she showed up at play practice... and sang the most beautiful song for the play, "Thoroughly Modern Millie".  She landed the lead role in the musical!

When I sat down to talk to Kaylee about her battle.  I asked how she did it.  I asked how she dealt with the fear. How she dealt with cancer.  She smiled and told me that she put it all in Gods hands and he carried her!

Copper trusted me to get him to the top of the bed.... There's a lot to be said for trust and especially trusting God to help through what seems like impossible odds!

God Bless,

 Brenda
