Speaking of getting help during a cancer battle. I was so inspired this weekend by the "Whatever it takes to find a cure run" and all day event at Scott Crump Toyota in Jasper. I got a lift to the event on Airlink 33/40. Even though it rained earlier and there were storms east of Jasper, it was a beautiful evening to fly. We arrived by day. We were whisked from the helipad to the dealership in a golf cart. I was escorted to an office in the rear of the building. There she was, a gorgeous petite blond signing autographs for a group of lucky young ladies. Heidi Newfield would perform in just minutes. But there she was relaxed and joking around with her host Scott Crump and his beautiful wife Lisa. Scott and LIsa planned the day of events to help raise money for cancer research.
Lisa openly talks about her breast cancer experience to help others. Scott has had many family members deal with cancer. They have both become warriors in the fight against this dreaded disease. This day was a labor of love to help find a cure not just for his own family, but for anyone in the future he could possibly spare the heartache of cancer. I was proud to join forces with these wonderful, gracious people. I had the honor of introducing Heidi Newfield.
Heidi was as nice and sweet as she could be. She stopped and allowed people to take pictures with her before her performance. Heidi had relatives with health challenges as well.
I paused to think how we are all in this life together... and it was humbling to see a sea of people in the crowd and know most of them had been touched by cancer one way or another. When I talked on stage about defeating the disease... there was a huge yeah that resounded from the crowd.
The sisters and brothers in the fight against cancer had joined together to defeat a despicable killer. What a powerful feeling, knowing the more we can get together to raise money for research and early detection... the closer we are to that cure!
Thank you to the Crumps and to Heidi Newfield and every single person who turned out to help fight cancer. From the runners in the morning, to the people who set up the inflatables for the children to the people who performed thoughout the day to the clean up crew that night!
It was a lift knowing so many of us are working together to find that cure... and with every single dollar raised we are that much closer to finding it!
God Bless,
Brenda
