But this year, there seems to be a buzz in the community about the leaves. They also seem to have held on a little longer since we haven’t had that much rain. Today I took my eight year old to a nursery to pick up a Christmas wreath. I polled the experts behind the counter as we talked about the leaves. They too agreed it was a very vibrant year for leaves. I questioned whether the drought could have had this effect on the leaves. They didn’t know for sure but said they thought the same thing that perhaps the drought had something to do with it.
Then I recalled the news stories quoting the experts on foliage saying that because of the drought, the leaves would not be as colorful this year. In fact I remember that from a number of years. Each year we are short on rain, we hear the reports that the leaves won’t be as colorful. But each year they are beautiful.
Could it be that the adversity, the will to survive, the tenacity of the tree to hang on in dry conditions somehow made it a more beautiful fall? I thought about it, for us, it’s much the same, when we persevere through tough times, if we allow God to lead us and mold us life itself can be more beautiful. Thank you God for making our world more beautiful and showing us how tough we really are and helping us to hang on through the droughts and challenges of life.
