MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Animal protection groups are urging Alabama's governor to sign legislation toughening the penalties for animal cruelty. The bill that passed on the last night of the legislative session increases the penalty for animal cruelty from a maximum of 6 months in jail to a maximum of 1 year.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say four teenagers were shot at a high school graduation party in Huntsville. The shooting happened early today.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox has been elected president of the Alabama League of Municipalities. The election makes him the fourth Tuscaloosa elected official to hold the seat.
