Anniston monitoring Facebook pages

Posted: Updated:

Anniston is working on a new social networking policy for city workers.

The proposal discourages city workers from posting any thing negative about the city or anyone connected to it on a social networking site.  Employees would not be able to post anything that would "embarrass the city".

"Can you imagine if your are in secret service and posted something about  the president and you said, 'it's my right' it's totally ridiculous, said City Councilor Ben Little.

"The problem in this situation is the city is using comments made by a citizen in their individual capacity to punish them after they been hired," said attorney Jason Odum.

The policy is still a work in progress. Right now, it does not lay out any specific penalties.
