Tuscaloosa drug bust nets marijuana, cocaine and weapons

A 21-year old Tuscaloosa man faces multiple charges after agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force found drugs, weapons and cash in his vehicle and residence.

Samuel Christopher Poppell was arrested after a traffic stop near Highway 82 East and Monticello Drive.  Agents found 6.5 lbs. of high grade marijuana, cocaine, and $6,000 cash.  Detectives were able to get a search warrant for his home in the 2700 block of Sumner Place and found 2.5 lbs. of marijuana, 30-40 vials of steroids, 1,000 unknown pills, 2 small bags of cocaine and multiple firearms.

Poppell is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and 2 counts of Trafficking in Marijuana. He is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $515,000 bond.  The case will be submitted for Federal ICE Prosecution.
