Hoover Board discusses suspended Spain Park Coach

Posted: Updated:

The Hoover Board of Education spent 2.5-hours in an executive session Tuesday night discussing Spain Park Coach David Shores.

Before that session, the suspended coach listened as parent after parent told the Hoover School Board why it should reinstate Shores as head football coach at Spain Park.

"David loves the kids just more than anyone on the board can imagine," one father said.

"This is some BS. This is crazy," vented another. "So y'all been talking about it for three weeks, and this man's livelihood... Not just him- even the kid."

Also in attendance, soon-to-be former Spain Park Athletic Director Gena Morris, who cut her New York vacation short to be here. She recently resigned the post citing "politics and hidden agendas."

"I need all of you to ask why I have not been asked what happened, what I was told by the kid within 30 minutes of this happening."

She's not ready to talk publicly about that conversation, but her statement is part of the investigation.

"It is part of the total record that will be considered in acting upon this situation," says Board President A.W. Bolt.

He says Superintendent Andy Craig has made a recommendation in this matter, but Bolt would not say what that recommendation is. The next board meeting is scheduled for October 11, 2010, but Bolt says there could be a special called meeting before that.

Shores made no comment at the meeting saying he would rather wait and see what the board decides.
