Victim in Sylacauga murder and attempted suicide identified

The victim and suspect in an early morning double shooting in Sylacauga have been identified.  The Sylacauga Police Department calls the incident an apparent murder and attempted suicide.

Police found Shalanda Elaine Pope, 38, dead in her car in the parking lot of Blue Bell Creameries around 4:20a.m.  Pope's ex-husband Michael Cornelius Milliner, 35, was also in the car and suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was air lifted to a Birmingham hospital, where he underwent surgery.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, Talladega County Coroners Office, and the Talladega County District Attorney are assisting in the investigation.
